Overview

Commercial Refurbishment, explained

What it is

Commercial refurbishment updates the working spaces of a business: washrooms, floors, walls, kitchens and front-of-house areas. Our focus is tiling, stone, flooring and the renovation work around them.

Who it's for

Shops, restaurants and cafés, offices, salons, clinics, and owners of mixed-use buildings who need durable finishes that make a good impression.

When you need it

When finishes are worn or damaged, when washrooms look dated, when you're taking on new premises, or when you're rebranding and want the space to match.

Why it pays to use a specialist

Commercial floors and washrooms take far more traffic than a home. Surfaces need the right materials and installation to last, and work needs to be planned so the business can keep operating.

The cost of getting it wrong

What happens when this is left or rushed

Worn or failing finishes in a business affect more than appearance.

Poor customer impression

Cracked tiles, stained grout and tired washrooms tell customers the business doesn't pay attention to detail.

Trip and slip hazards

Lifting tiles and damaged floors become a safety risk for staff and visitors.

Hygiene concerns

Failed grout and silicone in washrooms and kitchens trap dirt and moisture, making them harder to keep clean.

Disruption from repeat repairs

Cheap fixes fail quickly, and each repair means closing areas again.

Common mistakes we're called in to fix

  • Using domestic-grade tiles in high-traffic commercial areas.
  • Not planning work around trading hours.
  • Skipping substrate preparation to save time.
  • Choosing finishes that are hard to clean in washrooms and kitchens.
  • Patching repeatedly instead of fixing the underlying problem.

In detail

Materials, methods and options for commercial refurbishment

Washrooms and toilets

Commercial washrooms need hard-wearing wall and floor tiles, robust grout and properly sealed junctions. We plan layouts for easy cleaning and long life.

Floors in high-traffic areas

Entrances, shop floors and corridors need tiles with the right strength and slip resistance, laid on a properly prepared base so they don't crack or lift.

Porcelain is often the practical choice; natural stone can work beautifully in front-of-house areas with the right sealing and care.

Kitchens and food areas

Commercial kitchens need surfaces that withstand heat, moisture and frequent cleaning. Joints and junctions must be well sealed to stay hygienic.

How commercial differs from residential

Commercial work is shaped by trading hours, access, building management rules and heavier daily use. We plan around these from the first visit.

We work across London and Surrey, including Mayfair, Marylebone, Knightsbridge, Hammersmith and Ealing.

What affects the cost of commercial refurbishment

No two projects are priced the same, which is why we don't publish fixed prices. The main factors are the size of the space, the materials specified for durability and slip resistance, access and working-time restrictions, and how the work needs to be phased around your business. The condition of what's already there matters too: a sound, flat surface is quicker to work on than one that needs repairing or rebuilding first.

The free quote visit is where these factors become clear. Emanuele will explain what's driving the price, flag anything that could change it once work starts, and give you a written quote so you can compare like for like. Payments are then staged at 30% to book, 35% at halfway and 35% on completion, so your money follows the progress you can see.

Planning work around your business

The biggest risk in commercial work is lost trading time. We plan the sequence so areas can be closed off one at a time where possible, keep the working area protected and tidy at the end of each day, and agree in advance which areas need to stay open.

Our working hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm, and we'll be clear at quote stage about what can realistically be achieved within that. Clear communication with building managers and landlords is part of the job.

Specifying finishes for heavy use

Commercial floors face foot traffic, trolleys, cleaning machines and spills every day. Tile strength, slip resistance, grout choice and movement joints all matter more than in a home. Front-of-house areas can still be beautiful: porcelain that looks like stone, or natural stone with the right finish and maintenance plan, give a premium impression that lasts.

Where we work

We work across Central, West, South West and South East London, plus Surrey, including Mayfair, Kensington, Chelsea, Fulham, Richmond, Wimbledon, Clapham, Dulwich, Greenwich, Blackheath, Cobham and Esher. Popular areas for commercial refurbishment: Mayfair, Marylebone, Knightsbridge, Hammersmith, Ealing, Chiswick. See every area we cover.

Why Tilermate

Why London homeowners choose Tilermate for commercial refurbishment

Emanuele Campoccia trained as a tiler in Italy from a young age and has more than 20 years of experience. Since 2014 he has worked across London and Surrey on homes and commercial properties, and he still leads every project personally. When you call, you speak to the person responsible for the result, not a call centre or a salesperson.

Customers consistently mention the same things in their Google reviews: attention to detail, professionalism, clear communication and a clean, precise finish. Those reviews average 5.0, and several describe Emanuele checking not only his own work but that everything else on the project was done correctly.

The commercial side is kept simple. Quotes are free and written. Payments are staged at 30% to book, 35% at the halfway point and 35% on completion, so you're never paying far ahead of the work. Tilermate Interiors Ltd carries public liability insurance of up to £5 million, and bathroom installations come with a 2-year workmanship warranty from handover.

We work Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm, on planned projects only. That focus means each job gets proper preparation and attention rather than being squeezed in between emergency call-outs.
